IELTS Speaking part1 同 part3 可能會要你比較兩個人／地方／意見，例如問你住喺城市同住喺郊區有咩不同之處。提到比較題，大家可能會諗到 same as/ similar to/ different from/ as…as 呢啲英文，咁可以點樣豐富我哋嘅表達方式呢？其實只要善用同義詞、副詞及慣用語就可以！

善用同義詞

方法一：代替 same as/ similar to

1. On a par with

Speaking of abilities and working experience, I believe he is on a par with her.
說到能力和工作經驗，我相信他和她不相上下。

2. Have a lot in common

The two athletes have a lot in common. They both prefer offense over defense.

兩位運動員有很多共同點—他們都喜歡進攻多於防守。

方法二：代替 different from

1. Poles apart

Although we have been best friends for over 10 years, we are poles apart in personality.

雖然我們成為了最好的朋友超過 10 年，但我們的性格卻完全不同。

善用副詞強調不同

As a piece of evidence, the video attracted over 5 million views.

作為例子，該視頻吸引了超過 500 萬次觀看次數。

方法一：Strikingly different 截然不同

Living in the countryside is strikingly different from living in the city, especially for the environment.

生活在鄉村與生活在城市截然不同，尤其是在環境方面。

方法二：Utterly different 截然不同

Everything in Bali is utterly different from what I have experienced in my home country.

峇里島的一切都與我在國家所經歷的截然不同。

方法三：Rather different 微妙的差異

It is rather different between their types of fashion styles.

他們的時尚風格有很微妙的差異。

方法四：Subtly different 微妙的差異

The two tests are subtly different, such as the exam format.

這兩個考試在形式等方面略有不同。

善用慣用語

方法一：代替 same as/ similar to: In the same league as sb/sth

I don’t have any preference between these two cars. One is in the same league as the other one.

我對這兩款車沒有任何偏好，兩者差不多。

方法二：代替 different from: Be a far cry from sth

The performance was a far cry from what I had expected. I thought it would be boring, but it was rather amazing!

3. To cite an example

5. Including

好多人準備IETLS Speaking嘅時候都只會留意答題技巧或者延伸拓展技巧，而忽略咗greetings呢部分，以致於去到考場被問到最簡單嘅ID check問題時都口窒窒，影響埋之後嘅表現。今次Wall Street English就教大家點樣同考官嚟一個輕鬆自然嘅greetings，增加考官對你嘅印象分，要攞band 7或以上就話咁易啦！

Question 1 :

一入到去考官通常會先同你打招呼，然後問你嘅全名。

Examiner: Good morning / afternoon. My name is William. Can you tell me your full name please?
考官：早上好/下午好。我叫威廉。你能告訴我你的全名嗎？

Candidate: Good morning / afternoon John. My name is Wong Chun.
考生：約翰，早上好/下午好。我叫王俊。

Question 2 :

講完你嘅全名之後，考官會問你點稱呼，即係叫你講你嘅英文名。

Examiner: What should I call you? / What can I call you?
考官：我該怎麼稱呼你？ / 我可以叫你什麼？

Candidate: Please call me Tom. / You can call me Tom.
考生：請叫我湯姆。 / 你可以叫我湯姆。

之後考官會問你來自邊到。你嘅答案唔需要太長，直接回答便可，下面係你可以參考嘅例子。

Question 3 :

Examiner: Can you tell me where you’re from?
考官：你能告訴我你來自哪裡嗎？

Candidate: I was born and raised in Hong Kong. / I’m from Seoul, the capital of South Korea. / I was born in Macau, but I moved to Hong Kong when I was 14.
考生：我在香港出生和長大。 / 我來自韓國的首都首爾。 / 我出生在澳門，但我 14 歲時移居香港。

最後一步，考官會向你攞身份證明。

Question 4 :

Examiner: Can I see your identification, please?
考官：我可以看看你的身份證嗎？

Candidate: Sure, here it is. / Here you go.

Paraphrase嘅意思即係將一個句子重新包裝為意思一樣但字唔同嘅句子，係IELTS必定要識嘅技巧，要攞到band7或以上就一定要做好parahrasing。咁paraphrase具體應該要點做呢？其實一啲都唔難㗎，就等Wall Street English教大家五個paraphrase嘅小技巧！

1. Synonym

Paraphrase最簡單直接的方法。 Paraphrase是指將同義詞代替句子中具相同意思的字句，從而轉換成一個全新的句子。

The development of technology brings negative influences on our society.
→ Technology advancement brings a sizable impact to our society.

2. Word order

改變字詞的次序是常見的Paraphrase方法之一，但轉換詞語次序時應小心，以確保grammar正確。

In many places, large chain stores are taking over the marketplace.
→ Large chain stores are taking over the marketplace in many places.

除了轉換字詞順序，亦可配合Synonym同時使用。

In many places, large chain stores are taking over the marketplace.
→ Big corporations are monopolizing the market business at every corner.

3. Word form

Word form有不同的類別，例如：noun、adjective、verb.

我們亦可透過word form的變化，將句子paraphrase。轉換時，需小心word form的時態及次序，以確保grammar正確。

To conclude, although existing employers have a good reputation in the work because they work for a long time, they cannot survive without the help of candidates from the outside.

→ It is concluded that although existing employers are well-reputed in the work because of their long working hours, they cannot survive without the help of outsider candidates.

4. Rewrite into the opposite

將句子內的字譯作相反意思，從而得出一個相同意思的完整句子。

Both models suggested that innovation is rarely a successful strategy for parties out of power.
→ Neither model suggests that innovation is an effective strategy for parties out of power.

5. Active / passive

最後一個paraphrase的方法是將主動句，轉換成被動句。

I agree that the existence of these media leads to a reduction in cultural disparities.
→ It is agreed that the existence of these media leads to a reduction in cultural disparities.

IELTS 報名方法及注意事項

IELTS 報名方法方便簡單，考生可以到IELTS 的官方考試中心報名(例: IDP 教育的灣仔辦事處)，或者透過網上系統報考亦可。而 IELTS 考試的費用為HK$ 2,200，整個報考程序及付款必須於24 小時內完成，准考證、考試時間和地點將於考試前7 天以電郵形式通知考生。

步驟 1:  進入IDP IELTS 網站，選擇「立即報考IELTS」

不同外國課程的 IELTS 成績要求／到海外升學所需要的 IELTS 成績

英文語言能力是考入海外大學的首要條件，一般海外大學要求申請人在 IELTS 考獲不低於 IELTS 6.5* 的成績。如未能考獲所要求的分數，當地大學或要求同學須報讀英文先修課程，直至成績提升至指定水平才考慮收生。

而一般英文先修課程未能保證同學能於課程完結後升讀大學，同學亦也未必能控制課程的長短（一般由 10 至 40 星期不等），不同國家及院校的生活費、住宿費和學費不一。平均一年英語先修班開支動輒十萬至三十多萬不等。如在出發前考獲英語認證，取得海外大學學位，便更能掌握升學的步伐

你的 IELTS 成績足夠到海外升學嗎?

中六畢業後，同學們可以不同的方式銜接海外大學或可作為本地大學學生到海外大學交流。若你打算海外升學，不同的年級對 IELTS 的分數要求是有所不同的。普遍來說，海外大學一年級對 IELTS 成績要求是 6.5分，而三年級的最低要求是 7 分。下圖圖表為海外升學及海外交換生計劃對 IELTS 分數的要求。

我應該考哪種 IELTS 考試？

IELTS 具不同類別的考試及供考生選擇。而決定報考哪一種的 IELTS 考試，視乎你的目的而定。報名前，應向要求你提供 IELTS 成績的學校或機構查詢，須應考哪一種 IELTS 的考試。下圖歸納了不同 IELTS 考試類別的相關資訊，為打算海外升學或本地升學的你作參考。

如何準備 IELTS?

方間有很多準備 IELTS 的方法，今次，我們談談應考前必備 9 個 TIPS。

一、在考試前，應溫習及不斷操練不同的 IELTS 考試題型﹑考試內容，避免應試當天手忙腳亂。

二、挑選一些適合自己的 IELTS 參考書。雖然網上有很多免費資源可以參考，但若想有系統短時間內奪取高分，小編建議用 IELTS 參考書，你還可看看參考書的排鋪及結構適不適合自己。

三、可練習 Wall Street English 為考生準備的 IELTS 考試模擬試題，以便了解及掌握 IELTS 的評分標準。當遇到答錯的題目，應先了解自己錯在哪裡，自己弱項在那裡，再針對弱項加強操練。

四、練習 IELTS 口試的時候，可以使用 Wall Street English 為考生提供的 IELTS 口試練習題，並且錄下自己的口語練習過程。然後倒帶聽聽，留意自己在練習 IELTS 口語測驗的過程中，語言的流利度和連貫性、辭彙及句式豐富性﹑文法準確性，以及發音，這四 IELTS 口試中的評分要點。同時，亦可參與他們的 Social Club，與不同的人以英文進行說話練習，以增加自己英文說話的自信。

五、在雅思聽力與閱讀的測驗中，一定要學習與辨識同義字（意義相同的不同單字）。考生應該時常注意問題裡的關鍵字，然後回到題目或文章中找出或者聽出具有相同意義的不同單字，這些同義字之間的連結關係非常重要。同樣，善於使用同義字也適用於雅思口說與寫作測驗，這樣可以充分展現考生豐富的字彙實力。

六、在 IELTS 聽力、閱讀與寫作的單項測驗答題過程中，可以找出試題裡經常出現的關鍵字，如此一來，便可明確知道自己的答案裡應該包含哪些得分點，往往答案也在關鍵字的附近。在準備雅思寫作答題時，可以先做充分的腦力激盪並且草擬寫作大綱。

七、IELTS 閱讀著重的是你對整篇文意的理解，因此你不需完全明白每隻生字的意思，只需能夠理解整篇文章就可以了。在準備的時候，與其主力不斷背 vocab 背生字，不如每天花 20-30 分鐘閱讀涉獵不同類型的英文文章，如報紙文章、部落格、書籍、教材練習等，這亦可鍛鍊自己的速讀能力。

八、做 IELTS 考試模擬試題或進行 IELTS 考試時。應仔細檢查 IELTS 測驗的答案。確認是否已依據題目的指示作答，否則可能失分。

九、 IELTS 考試前一天應有充足的睡眠及休息，並且請於考試當天提早抵達考場登記及寄存個人物品 ，出示准考證及身份證明文件正本以確認身份，並採集指紋以作認證。

Influential: She is one of the most influential figures in local politics.
Persuasive: What do you think were some of the more persuasive arguments on the other side?
Effective: It has been demonstrated that this drug is effective. .
Forceful:You may need to be armed with some forceful arguments to persuade others.
